About the Artist

Tanya Davis - Biography

Tanya Davis

My watercolors are intricate and representational. Most often I am drawn to reflections and transparency.

In my Koi Series, the story is the water surface. The koi add color and movement, but it’s the way they interact with the surface and its reflections that captures my interest. The water surface simultaneously clarifies and obscures what’s below.

My still lifes often feature silver vessels and other shiny things: porcelain teacups, colorful glass, vintage Christmas ornaments, metallic fruit. I love it when the objects seem to be having a conversation with each other, through repetition of shapes or the way the objects are arranged.

Textures become a focal point in my work, whether it's the cool smooth silver of a teapot, a piece of folded origami, crisp vintage tablecloths, or the symmetry of a sea urchin.

Since 1989, nearly 600 of my works have found homes in private collections, along with a few corporate collections.
